Strategy development for the Greenport

Greenport West-Holland, in the "Westland" and "Oostland" areas of the province of South Holland, faces the task of transforming into an even more modern and sustainable production landscape in order to keep its (world-)leading position in glasshouse horticulture into the future.

Defining the right measures for the future requires a clear view of the challenges that lie ahead. The choice was made to build on the future scenarios developed by the municipality of Westland in 2017. Through a number of expert sessions, additional insights were gathered to translate the scenarios into three relevant themes: mobility and accessibility, modernisation of growing areas, and the energy transition.

Based on these translations, the team thought through the challenges that would appear in each scenario per theme and the major tasks for the region. The deepened scenarios are also used to enrich a quantitative traffic model.

"Even so, the scenarios surfaced a number of challenges that are relevant in every scenario, which provides solid input for the regional development plan."
