Scenario planning in the equestrian sector

As the trade association for equestrian entrepreneurs, FNRS supports its members in anticipating the future. Running a business in the equestrian sector is becoming increasingly demanding, with pressure on welfare, the need for sustainability and rising costs. Over the longer term, even more trends and developments will reach the sector, bringing both opportunities and risks for entrepreneurs. FNRS wants to prepare its members for the future and work towards a sector that is future-proof.

With the involvement of a broad group of equestrian entrepreneurs and stakeholders, we ran a trend and scenario study. Over a series of steps spread across four months, we worked together both in live sessions and online. With the group we arrived at four scenarios. Each scenario sketched a world in which the equestrian entrepreneur might find themselves in the future. For each of these worlds we formulated a number of practical handles for entrepreneurs to act on and run their business in a future-proof way. The scenarios were visualised by an illustrator and serve as input for FNRS to engage every entrepreneur in a conversation about a future-proof business.

"Thinking about future developments is not an easy task. Through our skilled and enjoyable collaboration with Jester, we worked with a group of stakeholders to describe four scenarios. With these four future images, both the trade association and its members have plenty of food for thought to keep doing business in a future-proof way."
