The rapid pace of change in the world raises many questions for long-term care. Will we maintain solidarity as a society, or will the shift to a fully participatory society continue? Can we truly provide integrated responses to the needs of the self-determining care recipient? ActiZ, the industry association representing nearly 400 organizations in the elderly and long-term care sector, has worked with executives and Jester Strategy over the past few months to develop four possible future scenarios for long-term care.

These scenarios are based on discussions with a wide range of experts, from professors to journalists, and from care purchasers to executives. Each scenario offers care organizations a distinct perspective on the future of long-term care, with all scenarios being plausible. The scenarios were discussed in a series of regional meetings with dozens of executives from across the country. Together, they explored the challenges emerging from these scenarios and how organizations can best respond.

“Thanks to these scenarios, we can engage in a structured conversation about the future and its implications for the present. Scenario thinking helps to reach new collective viewpoints and strategies for our association.”

ActiZ and its members are enthusiastic about the scenarios. The future perspectives will be further developed both collectively and individually. In a policy note on cross-domain care, the collective options and actions that ActiZ can take to enable streamlined cross-domain care will be defined. A scenario game will also provide member organizations with a tool to understand the impact of the future scenarios on the strategy of individual care organizations.
